EBB + FLOW / LAKE EFFECT

CONCEPT SPACES

Ebb + flow is a temporary indoor installation created for the 2014 group show Lake Effect: Architects Respond to our Access to Water. The work explores the contrasting public and intimate exchanges of movement and experiences that can happen along an urban waterfront; where activity is richly concentrated and held captive along an edge.

Visitors enter the work and are led up a narrow sloping boardwalk where the perception of activity and noise slowly fades. They path curves around and into a dark interior space of shimmery textile, blue light and plants emerging through muck. The active sounds of a public waterfront play against the intimacy of darkness and earthy smells.

Moving between public and private … we get wet, we go inside.
